Yours truly passed the second round (cue excited screams) and advanced to round three. With over a thousand entries divided into a few dozen groups, I managed to score 2nd place in my group for my short story.
The NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge 2021 kicked off in January and included over 6000 entries broken down into over 200 groups with random writing prompts. Why does any of this matter? My story was selected and I made it to round two!
Though she never said the words out loud, I saw them in my wife’s eyes. More and more, I was becoming a stranger to her. She recoiled at my touch. She shied away when I drew near. Her eyes and shoulders sagged lower every day, weighed down by my peculiar troubles.
